Memorandum of understanding

This agreement is made between:

1. Faculty for Social Work, University of Ljubljana, Topniška 31, 1000 Ljubljana, Slovenia
 
2. Liverpool John Moores University (LJMU) whose principal office is situated at Egerton Court, No. 2 Rodney Street, Liverpool L3 5UX

3. The Open University, Walton Hall, Milton Keynes, MK7 6AA.

This Memorandum of Understanding, between the Faculty for Social Work, University of Ljubljana, School of Humanities and Social Science Liverpool John Moores University, The Open University (hereinafter referred to as the ‘Parties’), recognises the establishment of an agreement to collaborate in publishing of Dialogue in Praxis: A Social Work International Journal.
The parties will act as an editorial board to drive , coordinate and develop the Journal. The responsibility of hosting the electronic journal previously hosted at Bemidji State University, USA; lies with the Faculty for Social Work, University of Ljubljana.
 
1. Object

Through this collaboration the institutions will facilitate the publishing of papers presented, book reviews and discussion papers, emerging from the Inter University Centre (IUC), Dubrovnik, School of Social Work Theory and Practice. To enable, and to optimise, knowledge exchange the publication will be electronic and will be open access. The publication is to be offered free of charge. The collaborating institutions will benefit in relation to the prestige generated by involvement in the development of the Journal The electronic journal project will [also] bring important experience associated with alternative publishing methods to the institutions. The ‘Parties’ will develop collaborations to facilitate knowledge exchange in areas of mutual interest through the Journal. A priority for all the parties will be to raise the profile and impact of the Journal as well as ensuring it makes the highest possible contribution to the development of social work theory and practice.
 
2. Journal title/Publishing frequency

The journal will be titled: DIALOGUE IN PRAXIS with the subtitle: A Social Work International Journal. Part of the front page or prolonged subtitle is @IUC.Dubrovnik, which may be used alternatively with ‘at the School of Social Work Theory and Practice at IUC, Dubrovnik’ when the clarification of the origin of the Journal is needed. Two issues will be published a year, spring and autumn. (with reservations on sufficient materials).

3. Editorial responsibility

The journal will have an editorial board with representatives from the members of the parties. In addition members from other IUC member institutions will be co-opted into a consortium to form an editorial collective. The editorial collective will be responsible for the publishing of two editions of the Journal in autumn and spring as well as overseeing the review process to ensure quality.
 
4. Finance

Faculty for Social Work, University of Ljubljana, has covered the initial cost of setting up the web page for the journal and will host it. The financial cost to each institution will be in staff time, covered in scholarly activities as part of their contracted duties, in order to contribute to their editorial commitments.
Any other expenses incurring in the due time, as well as funding secured for the Journal will be negotiated between the parties and will be subject to annexes to this memorandum.

5. Expiry of memorandum

This agreement has a 5 (five) year duration. After 4 (four) years the progress of the Journal will be reviewed and an extension considered. Each party may terminate this agreement with a 6 (six) months’ notice period.
This document is a statement of the current intention of the Parties. There is no intention to create legal relations by means of this document. The document is therefore not legally binding and neither Party may bring proceedings in respect thereof.
This agreement is effective when the representatives of the institutions have signed and dated the document.
